AAP: Yet another party?

Wednesday, 25 December 2013

Without taking away the credit for hard work and the impressive debut of AAP, I don’t think AAP can replicate its success in other parts. Though Kejriwal is intelligent, honest and hardworking person, his manifesto will itself be his greatest obstruction. So far, he built his image entirely on criticizing others, without a shadow of responsibility. Now that he will be the CM, he can’t change Delhi overnight, can he? Rape may continue to happen, I am just guessing. Earlier he would have blasted Mrs. Dixit for lack security in Delhi, but what about now? Now he has to bear the blunt, though he may not be responsible. He can’t place a police behind every rapist, but still he has to take responsibility for not stopping the rape. Welcome to the practical world.

Kejriwal and Delhi

People want change. People saw change in Kejriwal when he participated in historic movement with Anna, as he subsequently continued his weekly exposures, protests against electricity bills. He was in news, almost daily. His image was that of a protestor, a challenger. Adding to this, he came with a manifesto which can truly woo voters like a magnet. He went on to release manifestos for every constituency. He selected fresh faces as his candidates. People were impressed by all these. Corrupt Congress and leaderless Delhi BJP made his task of winning still easier.

Surprising many, he won the election. He got the external support. But the first thing he did, showed himself as a very defensive person. He expressed his unwillingness to form the government. Sensing that people will perceive this move as ‘avoiding the responsibility’, he played a master stroke. He wrote letters. Letters were more of a threat, than a consensus building move. He expected others to disagree with his demands, but the opposite happened. Now with a danger of being seen as the ‘B team of Congress’, he said he will ask public. After public also saying yes, he unwillingly got ready to take up the challenge. But to retain the image of AAP as a party which is equidistant from both BJP & Congress, he released a video. As you can see, all his moves were aimed at preserving his image, than to give a good governance as he promised.

Now, his own manifesto will investigate him. He promised that he will set up a monitor cell in CM office, to examine the progress of implementation of manifesto. If this cell is independent, then the report of this cell, will be the beginning of the end of dream world he built. Kejriwal and his party members know that they can’t fulfill all the promises that they made. What’s interesting is, how they convey it to public? If they try to show that they want more time to implement, then they some may see them as a party which is trying to perform. But if they say, system doesn’t allow them to change or that all promises can’t be full filled, then public will understand ‘AAP is yet another party’ very soon.

AAP and India

Delhi is not in India (not that Delhi is not India). Delhi witnessed those historic protests, people participated in it, so public is emotionally attached to AAP. But outside Delhi, AAP is just like any other new party, that’s all.

In coming months, Kejriwal has to choose between the two. Between his personal ambition of entering national politics and people’s expectation on him to deliver as a CM, his real intention will be out in public. By that time, he would also facing some anti-incumbency in Delhi! AAP supporters may claim, that they have been subjected to greater scrutiny compared to BJP or Congress. But people will distinguish AAP as yet another party, which believes in setting highest standard for others, while wants the ‘same old level’ for itself. Ready to blame, but not ready to face the same.

For me, AAP is just a bubble in Delhi, a bubble which is going to burst even in Delhi, by its own manifesto.

Fun during this election season

Sunday, 10 November 2013

After years of dedicated research, I have come up with this finding.
The number of accusations made by a political party is inversely proportional to the number of days left to the elections
There is negative relationship among these two variables. Lesser the days left, more will be the intensity of allegations, no just the increase in number of allegations. Most of the time, increase is not linear but exponential one.

Why politicians need to this?
  • During this crucial phase, politicians want to be in news in one way or the other.
  • Voters are influenced 'more' by the 'recent' image of the politicians, so there is a need to showcase a clean image.
  • Politicians suddenly become available to the media. They start to respond to every charges & throw counter-charges on opponents.
What public will get out of these exchanges?
Public will be immensely benefited with the war of words. They will get the following.
  • Innovative ways to criticize others
  • How to find fault in others, in all of their actions?
  • How to lie? If got caught, then how to lie again to cover the lies?
  • New abusive words on daily basis
This makes the whole election process a fun filled one. So, get ready for some heated exchanges during this chilling winter.

Exit Polls banned

Saturday, 9 November 2013

Congress is very happy, they got what they wanted. But Sanjay Jha may not be that much happy. Why? Because all his his holiday plans are scrapped, no? No more boycotting the debates for the sake of opposing them. But I feel sorry again for the viewers. Never mind it, viewers. When you can't escape from viewing the debates enjoy it!
After this decision on exit polls, EC got one more major work. Now it's going to review Modi's Khooni Panja  remarks. Yes, yes, EC is very busy nowadays. If EC keeps getting such a workload, days are not far when they need separate courts & rapid action lawyers. Ha ha, one more thing they need to do now: to review Rahul Gandhi's response. That's a very difficult job because for that, first they need to read his entire letter no?
In other news, AAP is going to start Jhadu chalao Mehengai hatao in Delhi. I fail to understand how Jhadu chalao can reduce the inflation? Some Jadui jhadu or what? May be who knows?
Or it can so be that, by Jhadu chalo there will be a cleaner city. Cleaner city means more attraction, more investment, more production and lesser inflation. Where is my Nobel Prize?

See you tomorrow, till then get me a Nobel Prize.

Opinion polls & poor Congress

Thursday, 7 November 2013

Congress hates opinion polls.
That's what the Congress said in their reply to Election Commission. And it's not a rocket science to understand that Congress doesn't hate opinion polls, but it hates opinion polls which show Congress losing. Practically no-one wants to hear the criticism, that to repeatedly. It's a human tendency to stop it or, at best try to avoid it. And Congress is trying both. Boycotting the debate & complaining to EC. What else can Congress do, man? Polls after polls BJP was projected as the winner, unless the survey is conducted by AAP. AAP through its very transparent mechanism ensured that it wins. Yes, it is also understandable if AAP doesn't win in its own poll, then why would they make it public, no?

Coming back to Congress, Sanjay Jha has been the face saver for them on TV, night after night he is trying to defend the indefensible. Though he himself loses his face many times, but tries to save Congress's face. Never mind his logic, he tries his best to spin any argument on its head and hijack the whole argument, turning it into a mess. Looking at Jha's such special abilities, handling the debates on opinion polls would not been hard for him. Somehow Congress felt it's better to boycott such debates on opinion polls. In other words, whenever there are debates on opinion polls, Sanjay Jha can have rest. Though during such resting holidays, Jha surely will watch Arnab's show. Feeling relaxed & not at all threatened by Arnab's loud voice, for the first time. Happy holidaying Mr. Jha. We won't miss you.

Congress is a giant party, Jairam opined. So what if there are no spokespersons on TV to defend Congress? There are so many journalists who can do that job. On some channels, even such journalists are also not required, anchors are sufficient. All these mean, Congress's decision of boycotting won't harm the party, much. But this decision would definitely save millions of viewer's from Sanjay Jha.
I am not sure, how we all can thank Congress for this ground breaking decision.

Modi hitting the nail on head, Congress searching hammer

Sunday, 3 November 2013

Though Modi is provoking Rahul, he is not ready to take on Modi. Leave alone taking on Modi, he is not ready to take Modi's name also. As we all know, to rescue the first family there is no scarcity of leaders in Congress. There, some are ready to pick up a broom & sweep, some are ready to die for Sonia. It seems Congress leaders are more loyal to first family than to nation.
When Modi is making fun of Rahul, all leaders are trying to defend Rahul by criticizing Modi. Though they are somehow managing this attack from Modi, but this strategy won’t help them for too long. Unless Rahul responds directly, his image will never improve. Because those who are questioned should answer not their loyalists.
In responding, at-least Nitish Kumar is doing it better than Rahul, though he failed miserably in providing the security to Patna rally. Whether Rahul takes on Modi or he will continue to be on defensive, time will tell. But Modi seems to be in no mood to reduce his attack.

Statue of Unity: Not for politicians?

Wednesday, 30 October 2013

Stage is all set for the groundbreaking ceremony of  statue of Sardar Patel. This Statue of Unity is a grand 182 metres (597 ft, double the height of Statue of Liberty) monument of which will be constructed in Gujarat, on the banks of Narmada river. As we know, Sardar Patel who was known as the Iron Man of India, belonged to the Congress party played a important role in uniting our nation. But he was never given the due importance he deserved. Congress is always accused of showcasing only Nehru and Gandhi family, conveniently ignoring other prominent leaders in the party.

(Source)

Modi himself is a big threat to Congress. When he picks up such issues, Congress finds itself in an uncomfortable position. Now that Modi has invited many Congress leaders too for this function, it has become a catch-22 situation. Whether to own Sardar Patel and attend the function or not attend the function and cite some reasons is the real headache they are facing. Whatever may be their choice, the work on construction of this monument is not going to stop.
One of the reasons given by Congress for not attending the function is that "Modi is trying usurp the legacy of Sardar Patel and using it for political gains".
  • If Modi is trying to usurp the legacy, why would he invite you?
  • If you think Modi is usurping the legacy, then you also usurp, no?
  • If you can't usurp the legacy by attending the function why criticize him saying he is usurping it?
  • Just for a moment thinking that he is usurping, is there any rule that just because if someone can't do it, others should also not do it?
Anand Sharma in his letter declining the invitation, stated that Sardar Patel wanted to ban RSS.
  • If Patel was really against the RSS, then it would be Modi who had to think about constructing his statue, no?
  • One can't understand how this be a reason for in not attending the function, unless of course Sharma likes RSS more than Modi.
(Source)
Citing some trivial reasons for not attending this function is easier. Just they could blame Modi as communal and that's all, after all Congress has a specialization in this.

But attending a function which is aims at respecting a national leader, thereby creating national unity is definitely respectful. When politics reduces to a tool in grabbing votes it looses it's charm. Leaders who rise above such things are the persons who earns the respect of people. The Statue of Unity, whether unites the political leaders or not, but when it unites the people it serves its purpose.

What makes you addicted to Arnab?

Monday, 28 October 2013

Loudest and most lauded news show is Arnab's noisehour, err.. I mean newshour. Not only does he top the TRP rankings, he tops the decibel chart too. I am not sure whether he tops the chart or he topples it.

One thing that is sure, he is very popular. People love to view his show day after day. Even the K-serials can learn few things. How to retain interest daily in-spite the never ending episodes.
What makes him so different then?
  • No nonsense
Straight forward questions. In his words "direct questions". "10 direct questions to UPA", "5 questions that govt must answer" something on this line. Though his questions are direct, usually not lesser than half a dozen.
  • Adds emotions
He is good at this. He adds emotions in his questions and also while delivering them. He tries to connect with the middle class. Usually he is angry, unless the topic is Pakistan. When it comes to Pakistan, revenge and rashtraprema gets mixed into his ever angry mood, thereby resulting in a deadly combination. Though his Pakistani panelists usually leave the discussion mid-air, they promptly return for the next discussion to face Arnab's missiles again.
  • Blasts the usual political rhetoric
The interrupting "No, no no no ....." usually ends the political blame game of the defending panelist. Many times it irks the panelists but much to the viewers delight. We all love others to get blasted while we have cold tea. Sometimes we even love Arnab getting blasted for a change.
  • Well researched
Those papers he holds while conducting the discussion, I guess are filled with panelist-wise questionnaire. To have so many questions day after day he needs a good research team. A research team which comes up with never ending list of questions, which gains the form of well directed West Indian bouncers through Arnab's mouth.
  • Audience feel relieved when he attacks the cause
When he criticizes the cause of the day or rather grills viewers are relived. The issue may be that of rising onion prices or sexist remarks of the kind dented & painted, Arnab takes the side of common man. During this process, while the aam admi gets relief, Arnab Goswami gets TRP.
  • Credible compared to his counterparts
Rajdeep & Barkha don't enjoy the credibility he enjoys. He neither has the cash for vote scam fame nor does he have the entry through Radia gates.

Though you might have changed the channel many times, when the noise on his show reached the unbearable level, you might have also came back to check whether everyone is okay? Whether Arnab has all his panelists under control? Whether Arnab is under control?

What Rahul Gandhi is going to speak in next his speech?

Auras around politicians

Tuesday, 22 October 2013

In this era, there are no auras. Perception has arrived in it's place. Through our perception only we judge a person when we see them. Effectively, how we perceive someone creates their aura.

How we think of someone is dependent on the information we have, which in turn depends on the information we have been provided. Providing information lies with media, so indirectly aura is created by the forth pillar, i.e. the media.

Lets have a look at the auras of politicians one by one.  He has been saying that he wants to put nation first, Let's put him first here.

Modi's aura created by our media is more of a stagnant one. After 2002 it's constant. In our media, without uttering words like 2002, malnutrition & fake encounters, no debate on Modi can be ever complete. What is surprising is despite media's negative & selective targeting against Modi, his popularity is increasing. May be days have come when public outsmarts the media & its bias.

PM's aura is full of respect. Mostly ending with g's. 2G, CWG etc. Though he is not the custodian files, invariably he will be blamed. Buck stops with him every-time when there is a scam. How about Rahul?

Instead of Amethi and it's poverty, Rahul's aura is remarkably positive in our media. After all he is the game changer, no?
Madam Sonia has an audacious aura. In news presented by our media, she will be either unhappy or promised strictest action. Furthermore she is the brain behind all the schemes and bills err...except that ordinance.

In conclusion, this pic summarizes the media behaviour.

Why can't Vadra show his biceps?

Why everyone is unhappy with their son?

Monday, 14 October 2013

"My mother told me that words I used were wrong"
"Father warns the CM son against complacency"

These kinds of family drama headings you will be reading always.
Father warned the son in public, mother criticized him, blah blah and so on.
After reading such headlines, you can be sure of one thing: Their son committed some blunders, again.

Well In India, dynasty and politics go hand in hand. Sometimes sons of the dynasty and blunders go hand in hand. Real problem is when the son himself is the blunder.

Never mind, coming back to the core issue of family drama, why such theatrics machan, that too in public?
If they really want to give advice to their son,
·         Why wouldn't they tell him before committing the blunder?
·         And why are they not telling their son personally. Why in public?
·         Why so much of media coverage?

So the real question is "why are they expressing it in public?".
According to my very sharp brain answer is:
·            Son’s image building (Ho Raha Puttar Nirmaan)
·            Restoring the lost credibility (see, my son is on right path, again)
·            Vote gimmicks, nothing else machan.

If your razor sharp brain gives any other answers, do comment.

History, Chemistry & Mathematics of Appeasement Politics

Friday, 11 October 2013

Politics is all about appeasing people.
Yes, this is a universal truth, applicable all over the globe. In India, as we believe in modifications and Indianisation before accepting anything, we changed politics as appeasing certain section of people. Here it is a well-known fact that every political party has its own vote bank. That's my vote bank bro! Don't touch it. Consequently, we have so many vote banks here, even that may overtake the real banks. While one party appeases its vote bank, others are busy with theirs.  In the end, all are happy, I mean political parties.
History: Banking on vote bank politics
For specific appeasement politicians divide the public. And then they focus on the section which is of their interest. Just like the targeting in marketing terms. With effective targeting, over time they turn it into vote bank. Stronger the vote bank higher the probability of retaining the power.
Chemistry: Bondage between votes and banks
In order to keep winning two things are needed:

  • Keeping the vote bank intact (=separated from others)
  • Constant appeasement of that vote bank (=nurturing)
Once the vote bank is formed, efforts are needed to keep them separated from the rest. Focus will be on maintaining higher homogeneity within section and higher heterogeneity among sections. Else vote bank will be diluted.

Mathematics: Differentiation of appeasement
The only problem with this type of politics is that by appeasing one section, other sections wont vote for them.
E.g. Look at the following hypothetical graph. Two communities. One is minority and the other is majority. Party X tries to appease the minorities. Higher the appeasement, higher the votes they get from minorities, lesser from majority.

Calculations based on author's overnight research

This graph says appeasement is useless, because total votes are not increasing. Amount votes they get by appeasing minorities is lesser than that they lose from majority.
But why do political parties do vote bank politics?
  • All vote for those who appease them, exclusively
  • If a politician appeases none but works for all, in the en no one will vote for him
  • Politicians can target many vote banks, thereby by developing a combo pack.
But when will this appeasement politics end?
Yes.
  • When the common problems such as
    • Development, Inflation
    • Job
    • Electricity
    • infrastructure become the core issue in elections.
  • Leaders who do not appease actually win elections. Then others may follow him.
  • People put nation first.
In the end, one question is left unanswered: Is this appeasement politics is wrong?
Yes. Absolutely it is wrong, undemocratic and immoral unless  err..  they are appeasing my section.

Why Rahul Gandhi is the Twitter Darling?

Wednesday, 9 October 2013

Rahul Gandhi is the darling on Twitter. Nobody can dare to question this statement. In Congress there may be some who may question his promotion to the top post, but nobody can negate this statement. Without him Twitter is boring. No fun at all. He is almost indispensable. How much the Congress party needs him, much more than that Twitter loves him.

We all are following someone or the other on Twitter, but he? He makes Twitter to follow him. With his carefully written and even carefully delivered heart-touching speeches. Yes. What speeches da! Ehh.. wonderful. Full of ideas, thoughts, fresh logic and what not. In other words, he is the ideal person. Ideal person to tweet about. Whether he makes it to the headlines or not, but he trends on twitter all the time: before, during and after his speeches. Looking at him I feel pity for those paid trends which pay heavily for a temporary attention. You rich advertising fellows learn from Rahul.

Sometimes Rahul wants to make headline for some specific thing. Remember the #Ordinance? But somehow he trends for something else. Never mind, haar jeet to hoti rehti hai. What ultimately matters is popularity no? Say yes.

His escape velocity analogy was phenomenal. It caught tweeple’s imagination. It trended on top of Twitter for 2 straight days. I was wondering whether escape velocity itself wanted to escape out of Twitter. May be Rahul didn't mention what velocity it needed to escape, it just stayed there only. By the time he gave another speech it slowly disappeared. Before answering any questions related to escape velocity, Physics students would laugh first. No chance of them making any mistake while answering Jupiter's escape velocity from now onwards.

This time his speech was in Rampur. In Rampur, he went one step further. He asked the crowd: “Arey bhai tali to baja do. Tali ke bina maza nahi ata” (I need you to clap to keep me going). (Check it here).

I just wish he keeps on giving us speeches, at the similar speed (or rather velocity). At least one speech a day. That would keep all of us happy and engaged.

Not a Comedy Night for Kapil

Saturday, 28 September 2013

Who doesn't know Kapil Sharma yaar? He is the king of comedy now. A very talented comedian, who is spontaneous, versatile, thinks on feet, good at singing and what not? Timing and his spontaneity has won everybody's heart.

He started with his career as stand-up comedian, got rejected in some shows, then went on to win many of them. He performed as an anchor of reality shows award functions. Recently he started his own show on colors after leaving the comedy circus on Sony. From employee he went on to become the employer. This is where a person embraces risk forgoing the comfort of his fixed monthly salary. Unfortunately Kapil's journey has faced huge setbacks in the beginning itself.

·       His 22 crore set got burnt. 22 crores dude! It may be insured but still it's a huge amount of money. For an employee like me and you, the profit earned by our employers may look big. But risk? At the most we may lose 2-3 months salary isn't it? But the employer can lose his entire investment. (1)
·       A 60 lakh tax evasion notice was also slapped on him. Well this part he could have taken care of. Not sure if he evaded it. If he did so, then along with 60 lakh he may to pay the fine also.(2)
·       And reportedly some of his crew members are upset as he has not paid them their salaries since July! If this is true, then those crew members are now in even worse condition as their boss suffered a huge financial loss. (3)
·       Though two episodes have been already shot and can help in running the show on TV without gap, but he still needs one more month to rebuild the sets (4)

But the good thing is that TRP wise Bittu is the Bigg Boss! He may not have the financial backing to make his show as big as Bigg Boss or KBC, but his popularity is unmatched (5). Bittu is even bigger than Big B and Bigg Boss. Look at the TRP chart.
Wishing him all the best, hope he doesn't lose his spirit. I am sure he will come up with same energy to win back his lost money and to win over the hearts.

Best blackmail is a good defense

Thursday, 26 September 2013

They say best defense is a good offense. It is true, especially if you are a public figure. In public life you hear criticism and corruption charges on a regular basis, so you need counter allegations to nullify them. Counter charges shifts the focus.

Take the following cases:

Source

Naveen Jindal was facing all kinds of charges because of the Coal scam. Zee news was tarring him further. Then as you all know he did a reverse sting on Zee News (read here). Now both the matters are sub-judice. But what a creativity? Zee guys, haven't you lost the first round?

Now moving on to VK Singh and Editor-Shekhar Gupta issue. Shekhar started this fight with a 'fake' report on that famous revolt. Then again he targeted VK Singh after Modi’s rally. Now VK Singh has attacked the Editor directly (read here). You can see his tweets below. But no media is ready to cover these allegations.

Lalit Modi was banned for life by BCCI. Now he says he can go after them more openly (read here). Now is this not a clear-cut blackmailing? This gives an impression that till now Lalit was waiting for a clean chit from BCCI. If he got a clean chit then he won’t attack BCCI.

Source

Moral of the story is this- keep all facts and documents about your enemy ready. But problem is in public life you never know who is your enemy or who is your friend. So keep all the secrets about others in your pen drive. Make them know that you have all the data and a good anti-virus to preserve it forever. They won't attack attack you now. Follow H. D. Kumaraswamy to understand how to reveal the documents.

We are poor by choice

Saturday, 21 September 2013

Getting the independence has been our only biggest achievement so far.
We never bothered about growth. When we have who cares for development.

No growth, no development. Only secular nation.

We are called the third world nation
Sadly we did not make use of our independence. Just indulged in some politics that has nothing do with growth. In simpler terms ‘vote bank politics’.

There is no alternative to growth. Look at this chart. This is our growth story. We are not a rich country and we have no intention to grow.

Take the case of Singapore. They were not born-rich-country. They too started were we started. In 1965 it got separated from Malaysia. During that time Singapore was almost a slum, half illiterate, poor country. Now? One of the developed, least corrupt, rich country.

How? Because of growth. Consistent growth.

Following two chart shows both India's and Singapore's story. I have compared the growth rate (%) of GDP at constant price (Data is taken from World Bank). Blue is Singapore. Red is our color. As always. They kept growing from the beginning.

The following graph shows per capita GDP (constant price). Singapore is way ahead of us. We are almost as good as the X-axis . Due to our sluggish growth and partly due to our explosive population growth.

The following chart shows our poverty. We have 27 crore poor people. That is 22% of population.  Mind you all these are based on Rs. 33 a day cut off, which again is under review. Most likely this poverty line will be increased. That means poverty figures will be higher.

Hope India too grows and becomes a prosperous country so that we can proudly say we are a third world country, but one third of world's poor are not here.
